A Research Fellowship (MSc) (Reference CESPU_2024_1) on the project “4FirHealth - Firefighting occupational exposure and early effects on the health of operational forces (PCIF/SSO/0090/2019), supported by national funds by FCT / MCTES, is available at CESPU.
Scientific area: Biomedical Sciences and related areas
Admission requirements: i) MSc degree in Bioengineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related scientific areas; ii) knowledge in green extraction techniques for natural products and food by-products; iii) experience in cellular models of biological barriers; iv) knowledge in microencapsulation; v) experience with analytical techniques.
Work Plan: This project aims to contribute with: i) assess the bioaccessibility of pre-selected firefighters’ occupational exposure to health-relevant pollutants released during fires through different routes of exposure and the potential cytotoxic effects on firefighters’ health, thought in vitro 3D cell models, including analytical quantification and biochemistry correlation ii) data treatment and firefighters’ health risk assessment and iii) preparation of scientific articles.
Work Place: The work will be conducted at CESPU, Gandra, Paredes, under the supervision of Professor Bruno Sarmento.
